The soundtrack album, released on 30 July 2010, features five songs with lyrics penned by Na. Muthukumar and Madhan Karky apart from the songs composed by Harris himself. It received good response from critics upon release and became a huge success at the music charts selling more than 2 million units and becoming one of the best selling Tamil film albums of all time in India according to Bookmyshow reports. The music of "2.0" is also getting very good response by critics and audences. Shooting began in 2015 in Chennai, where a set worth was created at the EVP Film City for a song sequence which was choreographed by Shammeer, who was associated with Shankar during his earlier films. In February 2016, the team left for locations in France, Bulgaria and Thailand to shoot a 60-day schedule which included filming a song with Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar while Samantha Ruth Prabhu played a cameo role. The team returned to India to shoot some crucial portions for the film until the end of July 2016 before wrapping up in August 2016. A.R. Rahman, who had composed music for Shankar's previous films, served as an executive producer of "Endhiran" and was retained as an executive producer for Shankar's next project.
